Virginia School of the Arts is an independent, not-for-profit arts institution dedicated to dance education, performance, and community outreach. It is our mission to educate and enrich all who are touched by Virginia School of the Arts to become ambassadors of the arts.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of Virginia School of the Arts is to foster and encourage students of high school age and younger to achieve the highest possible standards by enabling them to take their place in society as artist and responsible citizens. The purpose is acheived by thorough professional training in the arts, supplemented by a comprehensive academic curriculum.
As a residential and non-residential school we provide a stimulating atmosphere created by a day-to-day contact with similarly gifted students in their own and other related arts.
About Us
Virginia School of the Arts, located in the heart of historic Lynchburg, Virginia, is one of the leading dance educational institutions of its kind in the United States. Through out the year, VSA students and nationally recognized resident faculty join together to bring state of the art performances to the community. We are committed to working closely with other arts organizations, as well as, business and non-profit associations to bring the majestic beauty of the arts.
VSA, a private residential and day school, offers an intensive and comprehensive dance curriculum in which students have the opportunity to explore their creative talents while developing their technical skills. The classical- based program consist of ballet technique, men's technique, pointe, variations, pas de deux, and repertoire augmented with modern, jazz and body conditioning. Performances are a critical component of the program. Virginia School of the Arts is committed to creating a student body that reflects the cultural and ethnic make-up of our ever changing world.
Upon graduation, students are well prepared to begin their professional careers in dance or in a more traditional college or university setting.
