Residential Academic Year - Ages 14 - 18
Post Graduate - Ages 18 - 20
All applicants to Virginia School of the Arts are required to audition. You may audition at one of our audition sites, by videotape, or at VSA.
Audition requirements: $30.00 fee and two photographs.
Photograph requirements:
Ladies: pink tights, black leotard, ballet shoes and pointe shoes.
Gentlemen: white top, black tights and ballet shoes.
Required poses: first arabesque and tendu a la seconde.

Summer Intensive - Professional Division
Ages 15 - 17
Summer Intensive - Professional Division is by audition only. You may audition at one of our audition sites or at VSA.

Summer Intensive Program 2009 -
Ages 11 - 18
Acceptance into the Summer Intensive program for ages 11 to 18 is by application only. Please fill out application form and mail with 4 photographs and $30.00 application fee. Application form

Ladies: pink tights, black leotard, ballet shoes and pointe shoes.
Gentlemen: white top, black tights and ballet shoes.
Required poses: head shot, first arabesque, tendu a la seconde, attitude derriere croisé

Audition By Video
If unable to audition in person, audition by video, DVD or VHS, will be accepted. However, auditioning at an official audition site or at VSA is strongly encouraged.
Video auditions need to be in DVD or VHS format.
At the beginning of the video, please stand facing the camera and give your name, age and grade in school. State which program you are auditioning for.
The video should include 5 min. of classical barre and 5 min. of classical centre work. Ladies should demonstrate en pointe the following: relevés, echappés, pirouettes, petit allegro, and travelling turns.
Send the DVD or VHS and the completed audition form (below) to the attention of the Admissions Office with a $30.00 audition fee.

Audition at VSA
You may audition, by appointment, Monday through Saturday at Virginia School of the Arts. If you visit during the week a tour of EC Glass High School and the dormitories can be arranged. Please call the Admissions Office to arrange your visit.
Procedure after Audition / Application
Applicants will be notified in a timely manner by postal mail or email.
Financial Aid
Need-based financial aid is available on a limited basis at VSA. There is no financial aid available for the summer program. The financial aid form must be returned with the parents’ and student’s (if applicable) prior-year federal tax returns with all attachments before awards can be made. Questions about the financial aid procedure and deadlines should be directed to Admissions.
