All applicants to Virginia School of the Arts are required to audition. You may audition at one of our audition sites, by videotape, or at VSA. Dancers who have successfully completed an audition, the academic year enrollment material by April 15th are eligible for Early Action. This process provides priority to enrolling students for scholarships, financial aid and room preferences.
Audition requirements: $30.00 fee and two photographs.
Photograph requirements:
Ladies: pink tights, black leotard, ballet shoes and pointe shoes.
Gentlemen: white top, black tights and ballet shoes.
Required poses: first arabesque and tendu a la seconde.

Summer Intensive Program 2009 - Ages 11 - 18
Acceptance into the Summer Intensive program for ages 11 to 18 is by audition only. You will need to complete an audition form and include 2 photographs along with the $30.00 audition fee. Audition form

Audition By Video
If unable to audition in person, audition by video, DVD or VHS, will be accepted. However, auditioning at an official audition site or at VSA is strongly encouraged.
Video auditions need to be in DVD or VHS format.
At the beginning of the video, please stand facing the camera and give your name, age and grade in school. State which program you are auditioning for.
The video should include 5 minutes of classical barre and 5 minutes of classical centre work. Ladies should demonstrate en pointe the following: relevés, echappés, pirouettes, petit allegro, and travelling turns.
Send the DVD or VHS and the completed audition form (below) to the attention of the Admissions Office with a $30.00 audition fee.

Audition at VSA
You may audition, by appointment, Monday through Saturday at Virginia School of the Arts. If you visit during the week a tour of EC Glass High School and the dormitories can usually be arranged. Please call the Admissions Office to arrange your audition and visit.
Procedure after Audition
Applicants will be notified in a timely manner by email as to whether or not they have been accepted into the Summer Intensive or Academic Year dance training programs.
Financial Aid
Need-based financial aid is available on a limited basis at VSA. There is no financial aid available for the summer program. The financial aid form must be returned with the parents’ and student’s (if applicable) prior-year federal tax returns with all attachments before awards can be made.
