Community Dance

Virginia  School of  the  Arts Community Dance  program  provides  a comprehensive curriculum based on quality instruction  to  career   path as well   as  for  just  recreational  enjoyment.

ALL THAT DANCE!
Summer 2008

Take a ceep breath and experience a spectacular week of dance at
Virginia School of the Arts Community Dance Summer  Program, August 11th-16th.
Classes will include ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, african, body conditioning, dance education
and choreography workshop.
Live piano and percussion will accompany ballet and African dance classes. No experience
necessary! 
Students ages 5-8 will have two classes a day from 10:00-12:30 with a mid- day snack.
Students 9 and older will have classes from 10:00-3:30 with lunch provided in the VSA
cafeteria.

Residential students will be housed at the VSA dormitories with supervision provided by VSA staff. Additional
paperwork is required for residential students.

Registration

All enrolled Community Dance students are given the opportunity to participate in the annual production of THE NUTCRACKER.

Registration fee of $10.00 required of all students at registration for fall and spring classes. 

 Class Descriptions

Creative Movement: (Ages 3-5) This class introduces children to an awareness of their bodies through movement. Movement is used as a means of expressing their emotions and growing awareness of self. Focus is on coordination, memory, counting, and musicality.

Pre-Ballet: (Ages 5-7) Instruction in fundamentals and ballet vocabulary, with emphasis on stretching and strengthening exercises.

Beginning Ballet ( 8 years and older with previous insruction) : Introduction to ballet vocabulary and concepts, while instilling correct habits and discipline.

 Ballet II & lll: A continuation of Beginning Ballet for the more advanced beginner, with an in-depth study of vocabulary and concepts.

Pre-Pointe: A thirty minute preparation and conditioning class focusing on ankle and foot strenghtening, body core allignment, foot articulation necessary for pointe work. Invitation to Ballet lll and up only.

Adult Ballet: An opportunity for adults to continue basic ballet training.
