Community Dance
Virginia School of the Arts Community Dance program provides a comprehensive curriculum based on age appropriate, quality instruction for students who enjoy dance as a recreation or possible career path.
One Week Summer Dance Programs!
Fall Class Descriptions
Creative Movement: (Ages 3-5) This class introduces children to an awareness of their bodies through movement. Movement is used as a means of expressing their emotions and growing awareness of self. Focus is on coordination, memory, counting, and musicality. Class meets Wednesday or Saturday mornings.
Pre-Ballet: (Ages 5-7) Instruction in fundamentals and ballet vocabulary, with emphasis on stretching and strengthening exercises. Class meets Saturday.
Beginning Ballet I (7yrs and older) Introduction to ballet vocabulary and concepts, while instilling correct habits and discipline. Class meets Tuesday and Thursday.
Ballet II (Previous experience preferred) A continuation of Level I Ballet for students with some ballet experience, with an in-depth study of vocabulary and concepts. Class meets Tuesday and Thursday.
Ballet III with Pre-Pointe (9yrs and older with ballet experience) A preparation and conditioning class focusing on ankle and foot strenghtening, body core allignment, foot articulation necessary for pointe work. Class meets Monday and Wednesday.
Ballet IV (Completion of Pre-Pointe and approval from instructor) Class designed for students with a serious interested in classical ballet training and additional instruction in pointe. Class meets Monday, Wednsday and Thursday.
Adult Ballet/Jazzercize: An opportunity for adults to gain strength, flexibility and over all well being through basic ballet and dance exercises. Class meets Wednesday 9:30-10:30AM.
