Post Graduate Program

The Virginia School of the Arts is offering a Post Graduate Program specifically designed to further prepare high school graduates who are seeking placement in a professional dance company or a prestigious university dance program.  This study course is tailored to meet the individual needs of students, ages 18 to 20, under the discerning eyes of an internationally known and highly qualified faculty. Admittance is by audition only.

Post Graduate students at VSA follow an intensive and rigorous schedule of classes and rehearsals including, but not limited to, Ballet Technique, Pointe, Men’s Technique, Pas de Deux, Variations, Modern, Jazz, Composition, and Improvisation.  Monday through Friday the classes are scheduled from 1:30 until 6:00 and Saturday 10:00 – 11:30 with additional rehearsals on select evenings and Saturday afternoons.

There are numerous performance opportunities available to the Post Graduate students throughout the year including a full length Nutcracker in December, a main stage performance in the Spring and multiple mini-presentations, lecture-demonstrations, and outreach performances.  In addition, the post graduate students are assigned special projects specific to their individual needs and requirements.

Post Graduate students are housed in the Virginia School of the Arts residence halls and receive all meals in the VSA cafeteria. Students also participate in the VSA Wellness Program designed to address the physiological, emotional and nutritional needs of the pre-professional and university bound dancer. VSA staff and residence assistants provide transportation to and from all classes and rehearsals.

VSA is currently accepting applications from qualified high school graduates, ages 18 to 20, to be considered for the 2007 – 2008 Academic Year
