Imani Faye
Imani Faye studied dance at the Jamaica School of Dance in Kingston, Jamaica where she performed with the National Dance Theatre Company. In New York she received her training at Steps, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Broadway Dance Center and Fareta School of Dance and Drumming.
Imani has performed with Forces of Nature, Opus Dance Company, Cinque Folkloric Dance Company and Jubilation Dance workshop. She has also performed with The Chuck Davis Dance Company in which she toured locally, and performed several times in the Dance Africa, performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She has worked with several West African Dance Companies including, Maimouna Keita, LesGuirivoires Dance Company in the Ivory Coast West Africa, under the direction of Rosemarie Guiraud, Ballet Bagata and The Mask Dance Company. She toured Puerto Rico with The Drummers of Guinea and performed with The Sing-Sing Rhythms from Senegal West Africa in Canada .Imani has performed with Jazz Ensembles such as, Cecil Taylor in Europe and Sun Ra Arkestra in New York City and in Mexico she toured with The Ron Roach Caribbean Ensemble. She also performs with The Savoy Swingers, a group of jazz, tap and Lindy Hop dancers .Imani can be seen in Angelique Kidjo Batonga Video and Dance Black America. She also performed with Wyclef Jean at the Copacabana, poet Amiri Baraka and Dr.Karenga kwanzaa celebration at the Apollo Theatre.
Imani has taught community dance classes at Minisink Town House, Hansborough Community Center and Wadleigh High School in Harlem, the YMCA in Harlem and Yonkers, Harlem School of the Arts, Dance Theatre of Harlem and IS 271 in Brooklyn for Kowteff Dance Company.
Imani has choreographed for Theatre Companies including:
Opus Dance Company
Blackberry Productions "Great Women of Color."
Harlem School of the Arts " The African Nutcracker " and "The Goodwill Games".
Cinque Folkloric Dance Theatre – "Caribbean Suite"
Imani has choreographed two instructional West African Dance Videos.
"Dances of Djembe Orchestra".
